Compounding Pharmacy Offers Attention to Details, Individualized Medications

Long Beach’s compounding pharmacy MedCompounders offers level of attention not found in chain pharmacies

Long Beach, CA / Sometimes mass-produced medicines are just not the best choice. Medication tailored to the individual based on a number of personal factors in a compounding pharmacy is often more effective than something which comes from a giant factory.

“Medicine should not be a ‘one size fits all’ approach to healing,” said LA’s compounding pharmacy MedCompounders co-owner and pharmacist Dr. Nousheen Tabibzadeh. “Doctors do not treat patients like they are photocopies of each other. Every person is different, every person has different needs and every person should be treated as an individual.”

A compounding pharmacy does this by creating medicines on site. Ingredients are mixed according to the doctor’s requirements and the patient’s needs. This careful attention to detail also ensures each patient gets exactly what is needed in the dosages needed.

“We take the time to give you exactly what you need and only what you need,” said MedCompounders co-owner Dr. Debora Behmanesh Markzar. “Our attention to detail and focus on you, as a person and patient, is what sets our compounding pharmacy apart from chain pharmacies. This goes beyond just providing good customer service. This is providing individual care to every person who comes to MedCompunders.”

In addition to creating an individualized prescription, MedCompounders can:
• Provide alternative prescriptions for people who cannot use oral meeds or want a different medication delivery method
• Create, in the pharmacy, hard-to-find or discontinued medications
• Eliminate unnecessary fillers in medications like dyes, colors, alcohol and preservatives

“Some people have reactions to filler materials, even natural materials. This can create bigger problems than what the medicine is meant to heal,” said Dr. Markzar. “You take medication to improve your health, not make it worse.”

Compounding medication also allows it to be tailored to the person. A dose can be adjusted for weight, age, medical history and other requirements that mass-produced medicines simply cannot reach.

“We work with your physician to make sure you get exactly what you need on the schedule you need it,” said Dr. Tabibzadeh. “We screen your prescription against other medications you are taking. This is important, especially for older people, because they may see several physicians. Each doctor may prescribe a different medicine without knowing what others have ordered. We can prevent harmful drug interactions through this screening.”

MedCompounders also administers CDC-recommended immunizations and vaccines for adolescents, adults and seniors by appointment. Dr. Tabibzadeh and Dr. Markzar can make personalized vaccine recommendations based on consultations with physicians.
