Free Classes Address Bullying and Self Defense at Grand Opening Ceremony for Ascend Institute of Martial Arts

BETHESDA, MD / August 24, 2015 / Ascend Institute of Martial Arts will teach kids how to deal effectively with bullies and self-defense as part of free classes to celebrate the grand opening of Ascend Institute of Martial Arts. The event will be August 29 at 11:00am at 6936 Wisconsin Ave in Bethesda.
The bullying class is titled Bully Safe and shows kids how to take control of a situation where someone is being physically abusive.
"Growing up we all saw cases where a big kid was picking on a little kid. This gives the victim the upper hand. Even if a child never has to face this kind of threat, they will walk a little taller knowing they can handle just about anything that comes her way," said Joshua Troy, Partner at Ascend Institute.
Ascend Institute offers a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu curriculum that equips children with positive mental and physical skills that will help in school, at home and in life.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a non-striking self-defense martial art built on physics and chess-like tactics. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is thought to be one of the best self-defenses for kids and adults since it is applied in response to physical aggression.
The school recently hired instructors to teach kids Olympic style Tae Kwon Do as well. This martial art emphasizes skillful kicks and is a favorite of children. Studying more than one discipline makes both kids and adults better rounded athletes.
"We're happy to introduce our facility to the community and thank those who helped bring this project to fruition. The grand opening ceremony for Ascend Institute of Martial Arts marks the launch of a new era for martial arts in Maryland and the D.C. area," Troy said.
Free seminars open to the public include Anti Bullying from 11:00-12:00PM, Self Defense from 12:00-1:00PM, and an introduction to Luke Rienhart's Rodeo Guard from 1:30-2:30PM.
