Artist Maria Zervos Recreates Method of Aristotle’s Peripatetics in Peripatetics, ATHENS Project

Aristotle remains one of the greatest thinkers of all times. Noted for several influential texts, his philosophy and methods remain true even today. In his honor, Maria Zervos has re-created one of Aristotles most famous practices.
The term peripatetic refers to the idea of kinetic learning.” This approach includes a combination of walking and teaching, often traveling to different locales and places of interest while learning about the areas culture or exploring new ideas and social philosophies. Modern science and innovations in education support the idea of kinetic learning, so Aristotle’s idea of movement as part of teaching is a method that has been proven to work.
Zervos’ newest art work is appropriately entitled Peripatetics [ ATHENS ], and she has chosen the perfect location for her venture, the city of Athens, Greece. Her goal is to bring old and new together within a dynamic short film and art book. The artist plans to design a captivating visual montage to reactivate the philosophical idea of peripatetics in the city Athens.
My film will have footage from the city’s ancient ruins matched with todays 21st modern cityscape,” said Zervos in a recent interview. I have also invited several artists and writers to bring a unique, multi-modal look to the idea of the peripatetic with their unique contribution.
Maria Zervos has invited theorists, artists and writers such as Svetlana Boym, Heather Felty, Maria Koundoura and Pablo Medina to contribute and actively engage in the project, exploring themes that are nomadic in nature, transition, appearance, disappearance, crossroads, geography, history, politics, unsettlement, archaeology, exile, estrangement and migration, all concepts that are explored in Zervos’ art work.
Zervos has a very impressive resume for the project. She is a Fulbright scholar at Harvard in the Film and Visual Studies department. She also taught at Harvard and Emerson College. Her work has been in galleries across the world: New York, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, France and England. She has won several awards for her work.
My nomadic energy together with my writing is the driving forces behind my art work as a whole. I believe the art of poetry and the poetry of art do not refer simply to words or images” Zervos said.
For history buffs, scholars, world travelers and others who would like to support thePeripatetics [ ATHENS ] project, Zervos has a Kickstarter campaign page set up for contributions, and a Facebook page for updates. Additional information on Maria Zervos is available at her main website: http://www.maria-zervos.com. Additional information onPeripatetics [ ATHENS ] project is available here:https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/591179476/peripatetics-athens

Article points out serious health risk; local has perfect solution for weight loss

A recent article in the Independent says there is a serious health risk coming to Ireland by 2030.
The health risk is the same one affecting millions across the world – obesity, and the risks are greatest in Ireland, specifically women.
According to the article, “85pc [percent] of women will be overweight and 57pc [percent] obese by 2030, a major report predicts today.” This ranks second only to the U.S. in terms of epidemic where one in three is obese, and on track to diabetes by age 50.
For Cindy Segura, founder of Be Fit Club, this is a crisis of epidemic proportion, and one that she has dedicated her life to fighting.
“The ravages of obesity lead to more health issues than almost any other health problem, and unlike many other health issues, this one is not only curable but easily preventable,” said Segura in a recent interview.
It is a serious issue for women, because women store more fat than men. This does not mean that men are not at risk as well, however. “Men tend to store the fat around the stomach. At any given level of fatness, men are more likely have diabetes, cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure,” the article went on to say.
Segura offers a special programme that provides assistance to anyone looking to drop pounds, get health and fight the ravages of obesity.
Be Fit Club runs weight support management meetings weekly and is designed to combine healthy eating, support and professional consultative services for members seeking a healthier lifestyle.
“Club members meet one another and build relationships that help coach and cheer one another for optimal weight loss. My programme teaches slow and steady loss that is doable and manageable,” said Segura.
Summer is in full swing, and Segura has a special deal running until the end of the month. Until the end of the month, interested customers can save 160 Euros off the regular price.
“I want as many to join as possible. The sooner I have people sign up, the better,” said Segura.

Video Shows Arthur Weaver III Beats Guinness Record: Most “Knuckle Push Ups”

How many “knuckle push ups” can you do in 60 seconds? If you are Arthur Weaver III from Atlanta, the answer is: more than the guy in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Atlanta, GA

Arthur Weaver III has been involved in fitness and martial arts for most of his life, and a newYouTube video shows he recently broke the world record for most “Knuckle Push Ups” in 60 seconds. According to Weaver, a necessary part of achieving this feat is physical conditioning, where one trains the body for speed, endurance, and in Weaver’s case, extraordinary strength.
“The physical aspect of conditioning includes working parts of the body over and over to callous and scar so there is little to no feeling during competition or training,” says Weaver. He has been working on training his hands and building upper body strength for some time. Now that he has mastered the skill, he hopes to be recognized for setting a new record for “the most knuckle push ups in 60 seconds” in the Guinness Book of World Records.
One of the most iconic books in existence, the Guinness Book of World Records keeps a list of extremes in nature, the human body, competition, endurance and size. There are categories ranging from the largest pizza to the most cast iron frying pans thrown at one time. If there is something that can be done, someone will try to get into the book, and someone will try to beat that record.
Weaver recently set an unofficial world record for the most knuckle push-ups done in 60 seconds. This seems to be a relatively common feat to attempt, so Weaver took it a step further. He did 77 push ups in 60 seconds on his knuckles, beating the previous record of 58 push ups by almost 20 repetitions.
On hand for the attempt were fitness experts and professional timekeepers Muhammad White, Jimmy Dimaso, James Simms, and Michael Clark. Their professional opinions, coupled with a video of the attempt, shows indisputable proof the record has been bested. The attempt took place at star park in forest park Ga other adults and children exercising and playing also witnessed this attempt. Now, Weaver is waiting for Guinness to certify the record and place it in the book.
At 36, married and with a son, Weaver looks to be a man roughly half his age. He has been doing fitness and martial arts all of his life, and it shows. Now, he has accomplished yet another incredible feat to demonstrate his impressive physical abilities and form by setting this new world record.

Indiana tax lien sale holds promise of profits

A Fall tax sale in La Porte County, IN, holds promise to deliver profits to investors

La Porte, IN

The La Port County tax office is planning an early October tax lien sale on property that has past due taxes.
Tax lien investment expert Ted Thomas said he expects people who attend the auction and buy lien will realize tidy profits.
“This is a tax lien sale, so what they are buying is the past due tax on a piece of property. The property owner has the right to redeem the real estate by paying the investor back, plus a healthy interest payment,” Mr. Thomas said.
The sale will be held Oct. 8. The list of properties is being put together now and is available at www.sri-taxsale.com. Mr. Thomas said anyone interested in buying a lien at the auction should begin research now.
“Get a copy of the list of properties. Then start looking at them. If you live near La Port County, drive over. If you cannot get there, get online with a street view program and examine the properties that way. Decide which parcels you’re interested in and start the process to bid,” he said.
Auction registration information is on the SRI website.
County Treasurer Nancy Hawkins defended the tax sale, which is legal under Indiana law. She told the Herald-Argus newspaper, “It is only fair to the people who pay their property taxes every year to pursue those who do not pay.”
“This kind of sale has also been upheld by the US Supreme Court. In short, communities need tax dollars to provide services. If they can’t get property owners to voluntarily pay, they have to force a payment and the best way to do that is through a tax sale,” Mr. Thomas said.
This is a lien sale, not a tax deed sale. The property owners have a set amount of time to redeem the back taxes, plus interest, or lose their real estate to a foreclosure.
“More than 90 percent of tax sale liens are redeemed. People don’t want to lose their houses,” Mr. Thomas said. “The fact that the sales are legal, upheld by the courts and redemption is so high is what makes this kind of investing so safe.”

Get fit for the summer and be more productive at work

DUBLIN, Ireland

The most important part of any weight loss program is education. Summer is here and people are spending time outside and going on holiday.
Cindy Segura, owner of the Be Fit Club in Dublin, said if people know how balance their summertime activities properly, they can enter the fall season slimmer, trimmer and more healthy. Ireland is on track to be the fattest of the European nations, a trend that needs reversing, she said.
“It’s all about education. It’s all about teaching people what they need to know about making the right choices. It’s about giving people the tools they need to better manage their weight and health,” she said.
The Be Fit Club offers that education as well as regular support. Weekly emails, a mobile app that provides real time information are just part of the way Be Fit helps people get into better shape.
“Studies repeatedly show that when people come together with a common goal, they achieve more. That’s a fancy way of saying, get a support group and you can do more. Be Fit has support groups,” Ms. Segura said. “People come together and share their successes and their problems. They support each other and help one another get past the difficult parts.”
Having the combination of education, online information and support group help makes losing weight and being healthy easier, she said. Individual plans that don’t have a network in place often fail because the person isn’t getting the support he needs.
“People need a coach, need cheerleaders. We all need someone with us to push us and support us. We need outside reminders that we’re doing well and things are getting better,” she said. “It’s hard for you to see the results in yourself. When someone else points out your progress, it means much more.”
The Be Fit Club is a complete programme designed around starting and more importantly, continuing a path to a more healthful and active lifestyle. The overall goal is to help improve the body in all ways from physical to spiritual.
“The programme works because there is a support structure around the participant at all times that keeps them focused on goals, short and long term,”said Segura.
Segura is currently having a special registration window for the month of July, but anyone is welcome to sign up at any time for the benefits of her programme. Best of all, there is still enough time to enjoy the remainder of the summer.

Artist recreates concept of Aristotle

ATHENS, Greece – Aristotle remains one of the greatest thinkers of all times. Noted for several texts, his philosophy and tutor of Alexander the Great, Aristotle’s importance remains true even today. In his honor, Maria Zervos has re-created one of Aristotles most famous practices.
The peripatetic is a combination of walking and teaching, often traveling to different locales and places of interest. Modern science and study of learning supports the idea of kinetic learning, so Aristotle’s idea of movement as a teaching method works.
Zervos work is appropriately titled Peripatetics, and Zeros has chosen the perfect location for her project, the city of Athens, Greece. Her goal is to bring old and new within film and print; she wants to show how Athens is eternal and still has significant importance.
“My film will have footage from the city’s ancient ruins matched to a 21st modern city. I have also collaborated with several fellow artists to bring a unique, multi-modal look to the idea of the peripatetic, said Zeros in a recent interview.
Zeros has retained artists such as Svetlana Boym, Heather Felty, Maria Koundoura and Pablo Medina. Each are actively engaged with the themes of nomadism, transition, appearance, disappearance, crossroads, geography, history, politics, unsettlement, archaeology, exile, estrangement and migration, all concepts that were common in the time of Aristotle.
Zeros has a very impressive resume for the project. She is a Fulbright scholar at Harvard in the Film and Visual Studies department, working on art research. She also taught at Harvard and Emerson College. Her work has been in galleries across the world: New York, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, France and England. She has won several awards for her work.
“My nomadic energy together with my writing are the driving forces behind my art work as a whole. I believe the art of poetry and the poetry of art do not refer simply to words or images any more than poetry is expressed exclusively by writing,” Zeros said.
Zeros has a Kickstarter campaign, a Facebook page for the project, and a personal website. Additional information on her Peripatetics and other projects is available there.
