National Hispanic Professional Organization Celebrates Twelve Years with Membership Drive

Houston, Texas – December 20, 2015-- The National Hispanic Professional Organization (NHPO) headquartered in Houston, Texas, is turning 12. Its current leader, Chairwoman Sonia Rivera, will be keeping her post through 2017. NHPO has approximately 4,000 members and combines with another active chapter in McAllen, Texas. The organization has plans for eight more chapters for 2016 in Texas with additional chapters opening in Florida and California.

Chairwoman Rivera has been a member since its inception. Apart from a short period in 2008 and 2009, she has served on the board. By trade, she is an At Risk Education Consultant working with schools to implement strategies focused on developing youth’s individual assets to keep them in school. Her experience spans two decades and has prepared her to lead the organization into national spotlight. Rivera has said, “NHPO is like having another full time job and a third child who needs her attention.” Rivera credits her success with the NHPO thanks to the supportive and active board.

During 2015, NHPO partnered with other minority organizations to form strategic alliances to cross promote and cross support goals. This has led to “strong synergism,” and is shared at its networking events and marquee events such as the Membership Drive, its annual Gala and Golf Tournament.

According to Rivera, 53% of its membership is made up of sole proprietors and small businesses that rely on NHPO as their sole business networking marketing mix. This trend will be instrumental in partnering with the Minority Suppliers Organization in 2016. Members will have opportunity for seminars on how to become certified as a minority and female owned businesses. This can help qualify the businesses for lucrative government contracts. Rivera adds, “We are very focused on providing value and support to our members.”

In 2015, approximately 600 people attended the Membership Drive, and this coming year Rivera expects to top that. With the advent of social media, the event went viral across local social media platforms. Rivera's drive and passion sends the message: “Come; join us; get active; be a part of the Empowered Majority.” The 2016 Membership Drive will be held at The Aquarium Downtown January 6 from 6 to 9 p.m.
